WWE Smackdown Review - 04/20/07
Welcome to the fold Fuckies. It’s time for the down on the same smack time and the same smack channel. This week were coming off the……uh……..last week…..were coming off last week. It does seem that now that Wrestlemania is over the bookers can breath a sigh of relief and coast until the Rumble. Well lets see if that pattern continues with this week as were promised Kennedy vs. Undertaker a match that came out of last weeks tag match. Oh…good a pointless match coming out of another pointless match….oh well….lets get to it.
This week’s Smackdown is being brought to us Americans from Milan Italy…..does that means that all those boots that the wrestlers give to each other have finally come home. Looks like we start out our foreign exchange wrestling with the Blahtastic man himself Batista, strange enough its for a match. I can’t remember the last time Blahtista had a match that wasn’t the main event of Smackdown….oh well I also can’t remember the last time I gave a crap about Batista in general so this is no different.
After Batista makes it to the ring, and poses for about 2 minutes too long, Finlay walks his Irish ass down to the ring. This match exists for one of two reasons. One, Batista will own just to show he is still bad. Or two, somebody’s going to run in for some reason.
BATISTA VS. FINLAY
Looks like reason two it is, Batista wins of DQ when Kennedy runs down and clobbers Batista. This match was pretty pointless, even for a Smackdown match. Nothing was really accomplished except that we know that Kennedy and Finlay are officially affiliated. The match was pretty sloppy, but I guess that’s what you get when you get Batista. Other then that there really isn’t anything else to comment about., it was pretty……blah.
GOOD:
-Kennedy and Finlay being aligned could work out.
-We got this match out of the way…right away tonight
BAD
-Even with the run in there really wasn’t any point to this match. I like how building up to a Batista Taker rematch involves Batista and Taker not even dealing with each other but two other guys that aren’t even involved in the angle.
-It was a Batista match so it was pretty sloppy and slow
OVERALL RATING: Crap-on-a-Stick
After the match Finlay and Kennedy continue to beat down on Batista until the show goes to break.
After the break Jillian comes out to the ring. She grabs a mic and starts singing a song that can only be described as sounding like the banshee from Darby O’Gill and the little people singing the menu from Olive Garden. Michelle McCool comes out to the ring and butchers the Italian language some more when she tries to tell Jillian that she sucks. Jillian disagrees, McCool beats her down, end of segment.
The Hardys and Chris Benoit come to the ring. Matt Hardy had to add a little more movement to his entrance as to not make Jeff look like he is totally tripping balls. Chavo and Helms come out together, even though there really is no good reason these guys should team up considering that Chavo is holding the title that Helms held for a fucking year. MVP’s tunnel then magically appears and he makes his way to the ring.
THE HARDYS AND CHRIS BENOIT VS. CHAVO, HELMS, AND MVP
The match ended with Benoit making Helms tap to the sharpshooter. This match seemed to be a platform for everyone in the match to get their spots in and nothing more. MVP and Benoit are feuding but Hardys aren’t feuding with Chavo and Helms so it really seemed like a throw together match. The match was technically sound, but Benoit was in the match so there is no reason it shouldn’t have been. The ending was fitting but nothing really came out of it.
GOOD:
- A technically sound match with very little roughness.
-A decent TV match considering no build or reason.
BAD:
-Lots of spot wrestling towards the end of the match. Just everyone getting their moves in.
-Little to nothing came out of this match so it was a throw away match in that respect.
OVERALL RATING: Ehhhh.
Spanky and London run out to the ring, and I do mean run. London looking more and more like Keanu Reeves. In fact if we cave Spanky a red hat they would so look like Bill and Ted. This is followed by the Double D Douche bags driving their car all of five feet until they have to get out and walk the whole rest of the way to the ring.
SPANKY AND LONDON VS. DEUCE AND DOMINO
Deuce and Domino win after hitting Spanky with the Crack ‘Em in the Mouth. Well there goes an entire year reign from Spanky and London. The whole match was decided by London doing some moonsault to the floor and KO’ing himself. Not to mention that Deuce and Domino showed absolutely no wrestling skill in this match so not only the win hollow it hurts the entire reign of the other team. And after last week, spending so much time dealing with the fact that they got DQ’ed for doing their move, this week the do it right in front of the ref and nothing happens. This is horrible booking and I hope Deuce and Domino fall out of the plane as it heads back to the states.
GOOD:
-Nothing.
BAD:
-Everything I just said and so much more.
OVERALL RATING: Black hole of entertainment (no entertainment leaves its grasps)
After the match Spanky tends to his still downed partner as we all wonder what the hell tag team titles are actually for, while in the back we get a shot of Kane’s head and a promise of Kane coming next…..woohoo.
Taylor and Regal are in the ring as we come back from break. The pyros hit and the pudge monster makes his way to the ring.
KANE VS. REGAL AND TYAYLOR
Kane wins off count-out when Taylor and Regal just leave his ass in the ring. This match was sloppy. This match was too long. This match was pointless. Kane is very obviously taking Big Shows role as the lumbering big guy because he cannot wrestle the way he used to. The best part of this match was when Taylor and Regal just left.
GOOD:
-Good sense taking over and Regal and Taylor leaving in the middle of the match.
BAD:
-Pretty much everything else.
OVERALL RATING: Fuck Kane
Back from break and Taylor and Regal are asking Teddy Long not to be put in any more matches with Kane. So what does he do? He puts them in a tag match against Kane and the Boogeyman next week. I’m telling it wouldn’t be so bad if Long would change it up every now and again. But every week it’s the needless persecution of heels all across the Smackdown Kingdom.
Kennedy comes out, does one of his promos, and over the course of a couple commercial break Undertaker makes his way to the ring.
THE UNDERTAKER VS. KENNEDY
Kennedy gets DQ’ed when Finlay runs out and clobbers Taker. This is pretty much the same exact thing that happened earlier. It would be cool except for the fact that it’s not going anywhere. Kennedy and Finlay aren’t facing Taker and Batista at the pay-per-view so why are they running in. The match itself was pretty standard. There really was nothing special in the match.
GOOD:
-It’s just nice to see Taker in the main event and not Batista.
-Kennedy’s character is ever present and he looks extremely comfortable in the role he plays.
BAD:
-Still don’t see the point of the run ins but hopefully things are worked out
Overall this show left a very sour taste in my mouth. We have just hit cruise control since Mania. There is no evidence that their planning on shaking shit up any time soon. There really wasn’t that great match on the show tonight. There really wasn’t any really good matches for that matter. Really nothing happened at this Smackdown.
OVERALL SHOW RATING: Lame
Well that’s it for me this week, Fuckies. I’m pretty tired so I’m gonna get going. See ya nest week.
