Week In Review - Ending March 10, 2007
TCSwrestling.com prides itself on being a place for most of your wrestling needs; from what we understand, news is one of them. Now, were not talking news stories with headlines such as “Is Samoa Joe going to WWE??!!? Click here for details” (then after you click and get flamed with pop-ups, you read “Rumor has it that Samoa Joe has not entertained the thought of leaving TNA, as he is currently happy with his situation” Damn it. Tricked again.). We understand that like any form of entertainment, there’s news that matters and news that, well, doesn’t really amount to anything. We are your filter - offering you the top seven stories of the last seven days. That’s sounds like a good number, eh? Hell, we’ll even list them in the order of importance. You’re welcome.
NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING WITH MARCH 10, 2007:
1. Allen Coage aka “Bad News Brown” passed away March 6th. Brown was best known for his careers in Stampede Wrestling and the WWF and had notable feuds with Bret Hart, Jake Roberts, and Roddy Piper. The wrestling world will miss yet another fallen son.
2. Kurt Angle’s being investigated for steroids. Allegedly, he received two improper prescriptions at a Florida Rejuvenation Center for known steroids during his tenure in WWE. Angle declines that he received these prescriptions improperly and that they were treatment for his broken freakin’ neck.
3. Apparently, the NWA is rumored to sever all ties with TNA as soon as this Sunday, which means TNA will no longer have the NWA championships, nor the ability to reference their lineage. It also means that that dorky little title belt will finally be scrapped and something way more modern looking will come along to replace it. Who cares about lineage, anyway? Look where it got Vince. But this is strictly rumor at this point, so don’t get too much of a boner over it.
4. WWE is dumping their brand-exclusive PPVs, but not like you may be hoping. They’ll still have all 16 pay-per-views, but every single one of them will feature talent from all three brands, a la No Way Out. Brand extension? Fuck all!
5. Big Show’s contract has apparently expired with WWE. This means one of three things. He’ll resign for more than he’s worth so he doesn’t go to the competition, he’ll leave and go to said competition where Russo will book him in the most frustrating way possible, or he’ll just stay home and have more time to eat. Or maybe not.
6. Tag-team championships are expected to be added to ECW. We’re assuming that this may be followed by the addition of more than one tag team to the show, but this is the NEW ECW, so probably not. They’ll just team up the jobbers - can you say Richards/Balls?
7. Oleg Prudius aka Vladimir Kozlov has recently had his push cancelled by WWE. Apparently, everyone backstage universally agreed that he wasn’t ready for a push. Wow. Leave it to the “Double Double E” to decide to push a guy before they have any real clue if he’s ready. Can anyone say “Nathan Jones”? Who?
